Frequently asked questions
Surfing and levels
Which week fits my level?
Pick the line that sounds like you.
- Never surfed. Learn to Surf.
- Standing up in whitewater. Intermediate Surf.
- Riding green waves alone. Surf Guiding.
The level guide has the details. Still unsure? Describe your last surf when you send your dates and we'll place you.
What's the difference between coaching and guiding?
A coach teaches. They set one goal per session, watch you surf and correct your technique. Learn to Surf and Intermediate Surf are coached.
A guide doesn't teach. On Surf Guiding weeks a local guide picks the spot from swell, wind and tide, then briefs you on entry, exit, currents and where the peak breaks. The surfing is up to you.
How many surfers per coach, and are levels mixed?
Max 6 surfers per coach on Learn to Surf, 5 on Intermediate Surf and 6 per guide on Surf Guiding. Each level surfs in its own group.
Which languages do the coaches teach in?
English, French, Arabic and Tamazight. No one on the team teaches in German yet, so German speakers have their lessons in English.
Do I need to be fit or a strong swimmer?
You need to swim and be at ease in water over your head. There's no fitness test.
Can I change group during the week?
Yes. If you or your coach think another group fits better, tell us at dinner and you switch the next morning.
Will I be filmed?
Learn to Surf includes 1 filmed session and Intermediate Surf includes 3. You watch the clips with your coach after dinner.
Do I need yoga experience?
No. The 75-minute classes on the terrace train what surfing asks of your body: hips and shoulders for the pop-up and the paddle, core, balance and breathing. They're included in Surf & Yoga and cost €12 a class on other weeks.
Seasons
Which months suit my level?
- Learn to Surf. Year-round.
- Intermediate Surf. Best from September to May.
- Surf Guiding. October to April. In summer the points are often flat, so we guide Tamri and the beach breaks, and we tell you before you book.
Month-by-month conditions are on Spots & seasons.
How warm is the water?
About 17°C in late winter and 22°C in August. Your wetsuit is included.
What if the waves are flat or too big?
Your coach picks the spot each morning from swell, wind and tide. When the bay is flat, we drive north to Tamri, which usually has waves. When it's too big for your level, we move to a smaller spot or change the session time.
We don't refund sessions lost to flat or unsafe seas.
When are the Paradise Valley pools full?
From March to June. From July to September the pools run low, so the hike goes to the Tizgui valley instead. It runs on the rest day and costs €30, or €45 with lunch, with 4 people minimum.
Booking and payment
How does booking work?
- Send your dates through the enquiry form.
- We reply with a written quote within 24 hours.
- A 30% deposit holds your place.
- You pay the balance on arrival.
Cancelling up to 30 days before arrival is free.
Can I stay shorter or longer than a week?
Yes. Stays start at 4 nights, with fewer lessons. For a longer stay, tell us early so we can keep your place.
What's not included?
Flights, travel insurance, drinks, lunch on arrival day and the airport transfer. On Surf Guiding weeks the board isn't included either. You can rent one from €10 a day.
How do I pay?
The deposit by card or bank transfer, the balance on arrival by card or in cash. Prices are in euros.
Do I need trip-cancellation insurance?
We recommend it. Within 30 days of arrival we no longer refund your deposit, as the cancellation policy explains. Cancellation cover can pay it back if something stops you travelling. Check that your travel policy also covers surfing.
Getting here
How do I get here from Agadir airport?
Agadir Al Massira airport is about 50 minutes away by road. We arrange a transfer for €20 each way. Send your flight number with your dates.
Do I need a visa?
Most European, UK, US, Canadian and Australian passports get 90 days on arrival, free. Check the rules for your nationality before you fly.
Is Taghazout safe for women travelling alone?
Tamraght and Taghazout are small villages where surf travellers are part of daily life. In the villages and in Agadir, covered shoulders and knees draw less attention than beachwear. If something worries you, ask us before you book.
The house and food
Can I come on my own?
Yes. Prices are per person, so you pay the same whether you come alone or with friends. From the first lesson you surf in a group at your level.
How big is the house?
20 guests at most, so every group stays small. The beach is a 5-minute walk.
Which meals are included?
Breakfast every day, lunch on surf days and dinner 6 nights of 7. Most dishes are vegetarian. Vegan and gluten-free are easy with notice, and we need to know about allergies when you book.
Is there Wi-Fi?
Yes, the house has Wi-Fi.
Can a non-surfing partner come?
Yes. They can join the yoga classes and the Paradise Valley hike, and we quote a stay without surf on request.
Packing and money
What should I pack?
On coached weeks we provide the board, wetsuit and leash. Bring sunscreen, a rash vest, sandals, trainers with grip if you'll hike, and a warm layer for the evenings.
Do I need cash?
Bring some dirhams. Cafés, shops and taxis in the village mostly take cash.
